Southbound I-5 mainline closed in downtown Seattle overnight July 28; traffic to use express lanes

SEATTLE – The southbound Interstate 5 mainline through downtown Seattle will close Friday night, July 28, and all southbound traffic will use the express lanes. Beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, July 28, until 6 a.m. Saturday, July 29, all southbound mainline lanes will close near the Seattle Convention Center for scheduled maintenance.

During the closure, Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will conduct fire system testing under the Convention Center.

Building new bridges over I-5 in SeaTac/Des Moines requires significant traffic shift starting June 26

Nighttime drivers will use cross-over lane while girders are set for new South 216th Street bridge and new flyover ramp

SEATAC – Lifting and carefully placing long pieces of concrete weighing roughly 200,000 pounds is no easy feat, but that is about to happen on Interstate 5 in the SeaTac/Des Moines area.

Lane closures and reduced speed limit lifted

UPDATE: Crews have finished removing contaminated soil on southbound I-5 in Lacey.

LACEY – Cleanup from a recent tanker truck spill brought delays to overnight and early morning travelers on southbound Interstate 5 in Thurston County.

Starting Sunday, April 23, crews closed lanes and reduced speeds to remove soil contaminated with diesel fuel along the roadway on southbound I-5 between mileposts 109.75 and 110.10 near Northeast Carpenter Road in Lacey.

UPDATE: Work rescheduled for week of May 1

FEDERAL WAY – Evening travelers in south King County should add additional time or adjust routes the week of May 1 for ramp and/or lane closures in two locations, including State Route 509 and the Interstate 5/State Route 18 interchange in Federal Way.
