Express lanes

The I-5 express lanes help traffic flow during busy travel times. These lanes move in the direction that will relieve the most congestion and are on a typical daily schedule that changes on weekends and occasionally for major events.

I-5 express lanes schedule

Monday-Friday

  • Southbound - 5 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Northbound - 11:15 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Closed: 11 p.m. - 5 a.m.

Saturday & Sunday

  • Southbound - 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Northbound - 1:45 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Closed: 11 p.m. - 8 a.m.

Special events schedule

Only northbound service for the I-5 Express Lanes this weekend.

Due to the Revive I-5 roadwork this weekend, the I-5 Express Lanes will only be open for northbound. Both Saturday, July 2 and Sunday July 3, the express lanes will open at 8 a.m. in the northbound direction and remain in that configuration until 11 p.m. when they close.

I-5 Express Lanes will operate on weekend schedule and close late for the 4th of July holiday.

On Monday, July 4, the I-5 Express Lanes will operate on weekend hours due to the Independence Day holiday. They will close at midnight on this day to allow people to easily exit from events in the Seattle area that evening. The express lanes will resume normal weekday operations on Tuesday, July 5.

I-5 Express Lanes will remain closed until 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, July 6, the I-5 Express Lanes will close at 8 p.m. to allow for work inside the lanes. They will return to their normal weekday schedule on Thursday, July 7.
