Prepare now: Four overnight weekend closures of I-5 in Fife planned for September and October

Additional closures planned in Puget Sound area Sept. 27-30 as part of ‘monster’ weekend of roadwork

FIFE – Setting the second longest pre-cast concrete girders in the world will close both directions of Interstate 5 in Pierce and King counties overnight on Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28. This is the first of four consecutive weekends the interstate will be closed overnight between State Route 18 in Federal Way and 54th Avenue East in Fife to build a new bridge and tear down an old one. The remaining overnight closures for I-5 are scheduled for Oct. 4-6, Oct.

Plan ahead for temporary closure of JBLM’s DuPont Gate July 29 – Aug. 5 for road construction

Other JBLM gates will remain open during this work

DUPONT - Beginning 5 a.m. Monday, July 29, the Joint Base Lewis-McChord DuPont gate will close to all travelers. The gate will reopen 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5

The closure of this gate allows crews to continue to improve access to and from JBLM. The temporary DuPont Gate closure does not affect other JBLM gates.

June 3 open house highlights future I-5/179th St interchange in Ridgefield

Public input needed on roundabouts and pedestrian and bicycle features

RIDGEFIELD – On June 3, the Washington State Department of Transportation will host an in-person open house to give the public a first look at the future Interstate 5 and 179th Street Interchange Improvements project.

The new interchange will feature two roundabouts. People who attend the in-person open house or participate using a virtual public survey will:

FIFE – Community members are invited to attend an in-person open house on Tuesday, June 4 in Fife to learn more about ongoing and planned construction to extend State Route 167 from Puyallup to SR 509 near the Port of Tacoma.

Slow down on ice and snow.

It's easier to skid or lose control traveling at higher speeds. Give yourself more time to stop.

Carry chains, practice installing them.

Winter conditions could mean chains are required on your route. Practice putting them on your vehicle ahead of time.

Pack your winter car kit.

Carry extra supplies like warm clothing, ice scraper and brush, jumper cables and other emergency items.
