BELLINGHAM – A major effort to restore fish passage under both directions of Interstate 5 begins in late April between Bellingham and Burlington.
DUPONT – If April showers bring May flowers, then April girder setting will bring a new overpass, eventually, to a heavily used Interstate 5 intersection in DuPont. Nighttime travelers who use I-5, or the Steilacoom-DuPont Road overpass in DuPont, will see some delays and detours in April.
KENT – Drivers on eastbound State Route 516 in the Kent, Des Moines and SeaTac area need to be prepared for a temporary change in how they enter northbound Interstate 5.
Update: Oct. 10, 2024 - I-5 lane closures in Seattle will now include northbound lanes between mid-Boeing Field and the West Seattle Bridge. The updated information is reflected in the release below.
Update: Oct. 9, 2024 - The hours for the I-405 overnight lane reductions and ramp closures have changed. Note the lane closures will occur 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11 to 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. Ramps will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday. This updated information is reflected in the release below.
FIFE – Setting the second longest pre-cast concrete girders in the world will close both directions of Interstate 5 in Pierce and King counties overnight on Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28. This is the first of four consecutive weekends the interstate will be closed overnight between State Route 18 in Federal Way and 54th Avenue East in Fife to build a new bridge and tear down an old one. The remaining overnight closures for I-5 are scheduled for Oct. 4-6, Oct.
DUPONT - Beginning 5 a.m. Monday, July 29, the Joint Base Lewis-McChord DuPont gate will close to all travelers. The gate will reopen 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5
The closure of this gate allows crews to continue to improve access to and from JBLM. The temporary DuPont Gate closure does not affect other JBLM gates.
It's easier to skid or lose control traveling at higher speeds. Give yourself more time to stop.
Winter conditions could mean chains are required on your route. Practice putting them on your vehicle ahead of time.
Carry extra supplies like warm clothing, ice scraper and brush, jumper cables and other emergency items.
