Public Transportation - Green Transportation Capital Grants

The Washington State Legislature provided $12 million for a new Green Transportation Capital Grant (RCW 47.66.120). The grants are provided to transit agencies to fund capital projects to reduce the carbon intensity of the Washington transportation system. Examples include electrification of vehicle fleets, capital facilities to facilitate fleet electrification and/or hydrogen refueling and upgrades to electrical transmission and distribution systems.

The 2021-2023 Green Transportation Capital Grant applications are being evaluated with anticipated award notices in spring 2021. Below are some important dates:

  • Dec. 1, 2020 - Selected projects recommended to the Legislature
  • April 2021 (subject to budget bill enactment) - Notice of award issued
  • June 30, 2023 - Project completion
