Green Transportation Capital grants

The Washington State Legislature provided almost $16.5 million for Green Transportation Capital grants (RCW 47.66.120). The grants are provided to transit agencies to fund capital projects to reduce the carbon intensity of the Washington transportation system. Examples include electrification of vehicle fleets, capital facilities to facilitate fleet electrification and/or hydrogen refueling, and upgrades to electrical transmission and distribution systems.  

Important dates

  • July 15, 2020: WSDOT posts notice of funding opportunity, and grant applications are available.
  • Sept. 30, 2020: Grant applications are due to WSDOT.
  • Dec. 1, 2020: Selected projects recommended to the Legislature.
  • May-June 2021: WSDOT sends grant award letters to grantees (subject to budget bill enactment).
  • July 1, 2021: 2021-2023 biennium begins.
  • June 30, 2023: 2021-2023 biennium ends.
