Emergency projects wrapping up in Clallam County
PORT ANGELES – It has been a busy summer construction season on the Olympic Peninsula as the effects of this past winter’s storms continue to linger on highways in Clallam County.
Several of the Washington State Department of Transportation’s emergency repair projects have wrapped up or will soon be finished.
Highway preservation work could cause long delays on US 101 in Jefferson County
Daytime paving work, reduced speed limits Aug. 1-5
DISCOVERY BAY – US 101 travelers heading through Jefferson County will want to plan extra time during the week of Aug. 1. Crews are set to repair and preserve areas of the highway between Old Gardiner Road along Discovery Bay and Gardiner Cemetery Road.
What travelers can expect
From 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 1-5, travelers can expect delays of at least 15 minutes. Crews will work along a 4.6-mile section of US 101 between mileposts 277 and 281.6.
Plan for additional travel delays on routes to some popular summer destinations
Several state highways in Olympic Peninsula, Mount Rainier need repairs
OLYMPIA – Travelers headed to Mount Rainier National Park, Ocean Shores, Lake Cushman and other popular summer destinations will want to plan for additional travel delays this year. Construction crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will resurface several state highways around the Olympic Peninsula and Pierce County.
Work will begin as soon as Wednesday, July 13 on State Route 113 in Clallam County. The work will continue into early fall.
Emergency repairs to begin on US 101 south of Forks in Clallam County
FORKS – Long-awaited repairs to a stretch of road on US 101 just south of Bogachiel State Park in Clallam County will start on June 20.
Washington State Department of Transportation’s emergency contractor, Interwest Construction, will begin repair work at that site on US 101 at milepost 184.5, just a few miles south of the city of Forks near the Clallam-Jefferson County border. The area has been under one-way alternating traffic conditions since mid-November 2021.

Work to repair five state bridge decks kicks off in early June
Crews will restore structures in Grays Harbor, Mason, Jefferson and Kitsap counties
OLYMPIA – As warmer conditions arrive in the Pacific Northwest, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will repair five bridges in Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Kitsap and Mason counties. Work will begin in early June.
That’s a wrap! US 101 Cosi Hill slope stabilization work complete
COSMOPOLIS – A smoother ride has arrived for US 101 travelers between Aberdeen and Raymond. Crews finished paving at milepost 78 in Grays Harbor County on Friday, May 20. The highway reopened to two-way travel following previous intermittent lane closures from hillside damage and then roadway repairs. Construction is now complete and no additional lane closures are scheduled for this slope stabilization project.
