Girder setting for new I-5 overpass brings nighttime lane and ramp closures Sept. 15-20 in DuPont

Pendleton Avenue will also close overnight Sept. 8-9 for girder setting

DUPONT – Another round of girder setting for a new overpass in DuPont is scheduled for mid-September. Last April, crews installed girders for a new diverging diamond overpass over Interstate 5. On Monday, Sept. 15 they will return to the area – this time setting girders over the railroad next to the highway.

UPDATE: The series of westbound SR 18 lane, ramp and directional closures has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date. The scheduled work on the SR 99 First Avenue Bridge has also been canceled. The information has been removed in the news release below.

Northbound I-5 reduced to one lane overnight in DuPont July 25 and 26

UPDATE – The Saturday night total closure of northbound Interstate 5 in DuPont is cancelled. The work was completed during the evening of Friday, July 25.

WSDOT opens section of new SR 509 Expressway in SeaTac June 28

The first mile of the expressway extends from I-5 to South 24th Street

SEATAC – The first section of a new expressway is about to open in the Puget Sound area, providing travelers with another commuting option in south King County.

At 5:09 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, the Washington State Department of Transportation will open the first mile of the State Route 509 Expressway. The first mile of the SR 509 Completion Project stretches between Interstate 5 and 24th Avenue South in SeaTac. 

Slow down on ice and snow.

It's easier to skid or lose control traveling at higher speeds. Give yourself more time to stop.

Carry chains, practice installing them.

Winter conditions could mean chains are required on your route. Practice putting them on your vehicle ahead of time.

Pack your winter car kit.

Carry extra supplies like warm clothing, ice scraper and brush, jumper cables and other emergency items.
