Northbound Market Street at Garland Avenue has been reduced to a single lane for contractor crews to excavate and pile driving for the new pedestrian bridge crossing over the North Spokane Corridor. This lane restriction will remain in place until late June to early July.
This project will extend the current Children of the Sun Trail from where it ends at Columbia Avenue south to Carlisle Avenue. This project is a design-build with the contractor as Graham Contracting. In the end, the Children of the Sun Trail will connect to the Centennial Trail which runs from Spokane to Coeur d'Alene, and the mile-long Ben Burr Trail in Spokane once complete.
What to expect
The work at the Children of the Sun Trail will mainly occur away from any traffic impacts to the public.
While most work is off the roadway, the construction of several pedestrian bridges will cause restrictions at various east/west roadways including Euclid and Wellesley Avenue. Pedestrian bridge crossings at these roadways will likely have impacts on the roadway once the footings begin construction and girders are set over the roadway.
