Project overview
Corrosion from weather can damage bridges. Beginning in summer 2023, contractor crews cleaned and painted the metal surfaces of the I-5 Snohomish River Bridge in Everett to prevent this. This work will prolong the life of the bridge.
What to expect
This project was completed in June 2024.
Contractor crews repainted the I-5 Snohomish River Bridge in Everett. Most of the work will took place underneath the freeway, limiting traffic effects to occasional closures on Marine View Drive.
The I-5 Snohomish River Bridge was part of the original construction of the interstate in Everett. About 127,000 vehicles use this bridge each day. Maintaining paint on steel bridges is an important part of bridge preservation. Paint keeps the steel from corroding, extending the life of the bridge. While we inspect bridges at least every two years, this bridge last was painted in 1978.
