SR 525/I-405 Interchange to SR 99 Vicinity - Paving & ADA

There will be several closures on and around SR 525 from Sunday, July 12 until Friday morning, July 17. See real-time updates in the area on our travel map.

Project overview

Crews working for WSDOT will pave roughly two miles in both directions of State Route 525 from the Interstate 405 interchange to just south of 148th Street Southwest, as well as, eight ramps. The two bridges over Alderwood Mall Parkway and Maple Road will not be paved. Once contractor crews finish grinding and inlaying new HMA (Hot Mix Asphalt), the roadway surface will have a smoother ride that will preserve for years to come.

This work is weather dependent and the schedule may change.

This project will pave and make ADA improvements in both directions of SR 525 from I-405 to just south of 148th Street Southwest.

This section of SR 525 was built in 1984 and was last paved more than 20 years ago in 2004. Preservation work must take place to keep the highway in a state of good repair as the number of travelers using the SR 525 increases.

The asphalt on this stretch of SR 525 has outlived its anticipated 15-year lifespan. Through the years, cracks, ruts, and potholes have developed. These make the roadway uneven, allowing water to pool and reducing tire traction. This causes drivers to slow down to handle the slick conditions, which increases travel times. Removing the old, worn-out asphalt and replacing it with new pavement will provide safer driving conditions and extend the life of the highway.
