SR 520/124th Avenue NE Interchange Improvements Project

Project overview

Currently, over half the trips from westbound SR 520 are traveling to the Bellevue vicinity. A new project will allow westbound drivers the option to access the downtown Bellevue vicinity by exiting SR 520 onto 124th Avenue Northeast before reaching the heavily congested I-405/SR 520 interchange. WSDOT will construct a half interchange with new SR 520 ramps to and from the east. It will complement the existing half interchange to and from the west. The project will improve access to Bellevue’s Bel-Red District and reduce congestion at the I-405/SR 520 interchange.

What to expect

Currently, the I-405/SR 520 interchange is significantly congested. This project will build a new on-ramp to eastbound SR 520 and a new off-ramp from westbound SR 520 at 124th Avenue Northeast, improving access to the Spring District and the medical district as well as downtown Bellevue and East Link light rail. The project also includes a new SR 520 eastbound auxiliary lane from 124th Avenue Northeast to 148th Avenue Northeast and will realign the existing SR 520 Trail along westbound SR 520. The project will correct a SR 520 fish passage barrier at Goff Creek and improve water quality. It will also improve pedestrian and bicycle facilities along Northup Way through the interchange.

The SR 520/124th Avenue NE Interchange Improvements Project will allow westbound drivers the option to access the downtown Bellevue vicinity by exiting SR 520 onto 124th Avenue Northeast before reaching the I-405/SR 520 interchange.
