Fresh pavement removes cracks and wheel ruts where water can collect. This gives drivers an improved ride especially during heavy rain. Repaving preserves the highway structure and reduces the potential for costly emergency repairs.
Expansion joints run across the width of the highway. They allow for expansion and contraction with weather. They also flex under the weight of heavy vehicles. The work will reduce the chances a joint will break and need emergency closures.
