Project overview
This project will create three truck climbing lanes, or passing lanes, for vehicles who travel along SR 26 between Dusty and Colfax in Whitman County. One climbing lane will be built westbound and two will be built eastbound on SR 26. The Washington legislature approved the addition of a fourth climbing lane which will be constructed in 2024.
What to expect
All work was completed as of October 2024. No further impacts to the traveling public are anticipated.
Project location for the SR 26 Dusty to Colfax add climbing lanes project.
The SR 26 corridor is a rural farm-to-market route and is also heavily utilized by Washington State University students, who travel between the campus in Pullman and Western Washington. Currently, there are no existing climbing (passing) lanes for drivers to use. The addition of truck climbing lanes would address the platooning of vehicles behind slow-moving trucks. There are three climbing lanes proposed with this project - one westbound and two eastbound between the town of Dusty and Colfax.
