Project overview
This project would relocate travelers heading to and from the Kingston Ferry Terminal to Northeast First Street.
What to expect
This project would widen Northeast 1st Street to accommodate inbound and outbound ferry travelers. There would be two-way traffic between Washington Boulevard and West Kingston/Iowa Street.
This project also would create a more people-oriented street on Main Street in Kingston.
Whisper Creek, which runs in a culvert under Iowa Avenue, First Street and State Route 104 in downtown Kingston, exits into Puget Sound next to the Kingston Ferry Terminal. This culvert was recently identified as a barrier to fish and has been placed on the WSDOT Fish Passage Inventory list to correct. WSDOT must now focus on a pre-design effort to identify how to correct the fish barrier. This means more time is being added to the overall project, and correcting the Whisper Creek barrier is now part of the project.
