Work resumes on SR 302 at Little Minter Creek in Pierce County

Lane closures begin July 25; full road closure coming later this summer

PURDY – Work to install two culverts to improve fish migration under State Route 302 at Little Minter Creek in Pierce County is kicking into high gear.

Beginning Monday, July 25, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will resume alternating one-way traffic on a section of SR 302 between 118th Avenue Northwest and 123rd Avenue Northwest.

Key Peninsula travelers will see minor delays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday throughout the summer and early fall. Crews are also allowed to work at night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day. The lane closures allow heavy equipment to enter and exit the active work zone.

Long term closure of SR 302 on the horizon

To install the new box culverts in Little Minter Creek, a portion of SR 302 will need to close around the clock for over a week later this summer. During the closures, signed detours will be in place for both passenger vehicles and oversized semi-trucks. WSDOT will announce the closure dates once the contractor schedule is finalized.

Key Peninsula travelers are encouraged to sign up for email updates. Real-time traffic information is available on the WSDOT app and WSDOT regional Twitter account.
