This project is currently in the early stages of design. The 2022 chip seal project has been broken into two projects, north, and south. All information provided below is contingent upon final budget approval.

Needs & benefits

Chip sealing preserves the integrity and life of deteriorating roadway by applying a Bituminous Surface Treatment (BST) seal coat of oil and gravel (chips) to the existing pavement. Restoration is necessary before the underlying road structure is damaged, requiring a much more expensive rebuild.

I-90 - Mullan Road Crossing - Bridge Deck Repair

This project was awarded to N.A. Degerstrom. This project will rehabilitate the Mullan Road Overcrossing of I-90 in Spokane Valley by hydro-milling 1.5 inches of bridge deck and placing a 2 inch modified concrete surface to allow it to be used for years to come.

Safety improvements coming to US 395/SR 292 intersection near Loon Lake

The Washington State Department of Transportation will host a virtual public meeting to present preliminary plans to install a compact roundabout designed to improve safety along US-395 at State Route 292 in Loon Lake. Needs & benefits

The Eastern Region 2021 Chip Seal includes two sections of roadway:

  • SR 26 - Laurel Road to Washtucna
  • SR 274 from the junction with SR 27 to the Idaho State Line. 

Both sections will be crack sealed, have pavement repair, preleveling, bituminous surface treatment, fog sealing, pavement markings, and guidepost replacements. Traffic control may include lane closures, flaggers, and pilot cars.
