Project overview
This project replaces the existing bridge deck on the I-90 Vantage Bridge to maintain the structural integrity, ensure the safety of the highway and extend the life of the bridge. The Vantage Bridge was built in 1962 and the last time the bridge received a major overhaul was in 1982.
What to expect
During the summer of 2025, WSDOT and contractor crews made progress by constructing a platform along the entire length of the bridge, enabling work beneath the span. They completed 80% of the repairs to the bridge piers and replaced 60 concrete panels. Additionally, the bridge deck replacement is now 25% complete. All lanes are open for the winter, with no restrictions.
Starting March 2025, work to replace the bridge deck will resume with the following restrictions:
- One lane closed in both directions 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
- Narrow lanes and shoulders.
- Reduced speeds through the work zone.
- Vehicles over 9 feet wide are prohibited across the bridge.
Travelers will experience long delays eastbound on Fridays and westbound on Sundays and are encouraged to choose alternate routes.
Work to replace the I-90 Vantage bridge started spring 2024.
