Purpose

State Route 542, Mount Baker Highway, connects communities in eastern Whatcom County with the rest of Washington State while also providing a gateway to outdoor recreation and tourism opportunities near Mount Baker. This route also acts as an economic corridor transporting over 3 million tons of freight each year. The route passes through the population center of Deming, which has been recognized as a focus area for planning through engagement with many of our partners.

This study will document transportation needs along the SR 542 corridor in Deming, as well as possible strategies to enhance multimodal accessibility and safety. This planning process will prepare us for future funding opportunities through which highway improvements can be designed and constructed.

Members of the public are invited to participate in the online survey or complete a pdf version and email it to Katie Bunge, the transportation planner who is managing this study. View the online open house.
