The study of State Route 162 from SR 410 south to west of the city limits of Orting is complete. The study report is available for viewing.
Purpose
SR 162 is an important north-south link through east Pierce County. It moves people and goods and connects the cities of Sumner and Orting, and the Orting Valley. This study used data to develop recommendations that will help improve safety, access, and mobility. During the study, WSDOT worked with local community representatives and government leaders. Recommendations published in the final study report will be used to pursue funding for design and construction.

Travelers who use SR 162 often experience delays during peak commute hours, and continued development in this part of Pierce County will likely increase traffic volumes along the study corridor.
