Project overview
With this Connecting Washington project, we made multiple improvements to the State Route 520/148th Avenue Northeast interchange within the cities of Bellevue and Redmond.
Our contractor, Granite Construction, built a direct-access off-ramp from eastbound SR 520 to the Overlake Village area in Redmond through a tunnel running beneath 148th Avenue Northeast. The project also built two roundabouts and the new Redmond city streets of Northeast Hopper and Northeast Shen streets and Lumiere Avenue.
The direct-access ramp bypasses the busy 148th Avenue Northeast/Northeast 24th Street intersection, where traffic routinely backed up during peak travel times, and establishes a direct route to destinations along 152nd Avenue Northeast and beyond.
What to expect
Construction finished in early December 2023. Intermittent closures at the SR 520/148th Avenue Northeast interchange are possible into spring 2024 for final landscaping.
On eastbound SR 520 exit to 148th Avenue Northeast, we realigned the existing ramp and added a ramp underneath 148th to the Overlake Village area.
