SR 26 & I-90 – Eastern Region 2024 Bridge Repair

Project overview

This project will rehabilitate the concrete bridge decks on a pair of bridges in Adams County. The first bridge is located on eastbound I-90 that crosses over SR 21 approximately 15 miles west of Ritzville. The second structure is located on SR 26 that crosses over an abandoned railroad just outside the town of Washtucna. Crews will repair delaminated and deteriorated areas of the bridge decks, then apply a protective concrete overlay to provide a smooth surface and preserve the structural integrity and functionality of the bridge decks for years to come. This work is anticipated to provide 25 years of additional service life for the bridges.

What to expect

Significant delamination, cracking, and spalling has occurred causing the bridge decks to fail. The project will be accomplished by removing the top few inches of the existing concrete overlay by hydromilling, repairing the remaining areas of the concrete decks, and then overlaying the deck surfaces with new concrete.

Travelers can expect a reduced speed approaching the work zone during construction  and intermittent single-lane closures. Please remember to slow down in work zones and watch for road crews.
