SR 16 - SR 160 - Kitsap County Fish Passage Barriers - Remove Fish Barriers

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, the left lane on westbound SR 16 near Sedgwick Road (SR 160) will close. The closure allows contractor crews to move a barrier for an upcoming temporary bypass roadway.

Project overview

This project replaces barriers to fish at Blackjack Creek (SR 16) and Salmonberry Creek (SR 160). Work includes replacing three 8-foot by 9-foot box culverts at Blackjack Creek with two 80-foot bridges, which will combine the highway and ramps onto a single structure in each direction of SR 16.

At Salmonberry Creek, a 60-foot long, 48-inch diameter arch pipe will be replaced with a 25-foot buried bridge structure.

What to expect

Work has begun at Blackjack Creek on SR 16. Eastbound SR 16 travelers will see a new traffic pattern. Traffic has shifted into the median. This will allow crews to begin removing the culverts and replace them with a new bridge. The speed limit is reduced at this location from 60 mph to 50 mph.

Eastbound SR 16 traffic is now back on the main highway and the new eastbound bridge and exit ramp structure is operational. Crews will remove the bypass and then begin work on westbound SR 16.

Travelers may see nighttime single-lane closures on SR 16 associated with this project. Closures on SR 16 eastbound are permitted between 5:45 p.m. and 10 a.m. the following day. Closures on SR 16 westbound are permitted from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day.

The Salmonberry Creek portion of the project includes a 45-day closure of SR 160, which is currently scheduled for the summer of 2026.
