What to expect

The project will be accomplished by removing the surface of the existing pavement, repairing portions of the underlying pavement, crack sealing, paving with Hot Mix Asphalt, and installing rumble strips. Once completed, the roadway surface will have a smoother ride that will be preserved for years to come.

During construction, travelers can expect a reduced speed approaching the work zone and single-lane closures. Crews will close one lane at a time to grind out the deteriorating asphalt. They will later install a fresh surface. Travelers, especially motorcyclists, should be alert for milled pavement surfaces and vertical lane edges. Please remember to slow down in work zones and watch for road crews.

This section was last paved in 2012 and the shoulders were last paved in 1988. The existing HMA is failing, resulting in longitudinal cracking, alligator cracking, and potholes. The pavement condition rating has dropped below the acceptable pavement rating.
