Project overview
Along a 12-mile stretch of southbound Interstate 5 in Whatcom and Skagit counties between milepost 243 just north of Nulle Road to milepost 231 near the State Route 11/Chuckanut Drive interchange the pavement is worn and there are cracks, ruts and potholes along the highway. Included in this improvement project is HMA paving, concrete panel replacement, diamond grinding, shoulder repair, weigh station upgrades and rumble strip replacements and new pavement markings. When complete, this will provide a smoother surface and safer ride for all travelers.
The majority of work will be completed during nighttime single-lane closures.
What to expect
Throughout this project the contractor working on behalf of WSDOT is allowed to close one southbound lane of I-5 at a time:
- Weekday closures are permitted between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Weekend closures are permitted between 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Ramp closure hours vary but are typically allowed between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
When ramps are closed signed detour routes will be implemented.
Travelers along this stretch of I-5 should plan for delays.
