I-5 - Snohomish River Bridge Painting

Eastbound Marine View Drive will be closed at the southbound I-5 on-ramp from early Wednesday, March 13, to mid-April for bridge painting. Vehicles can detour via Summit Avenue and 23rd Street.

Project overview

Corrosion from weather can damage bridges. Beginning in summer 2023, contractor crews will clean and paint the metal surfaces of the I-5 Snohomish River Bridge in Everett to prevent this. This work will prolong the life of the bridge.

What to expect

Beginning March 13, eastbound Marine View Drive will close at the southbound I-5 on-ramp for bridge painting. People traveling to the east side of I-5 will be able to use the northbound I-5 off-ramp to Marine View Drive, or detour via Summit Avenue and 23rd Street.

While crews are painting the north half of the bridge over Marine View Drive, westbound traffic will shift to the eastbound lanes for safety. Traffic cannot be allowed underneath the work zone. When the workers shift to paint the south half of the bridge, the westbound lane will remain open.

Marine View Drive will open on Sunday, March 24, to accommodate the Milltown Marathon. The roadway will close later that night until mid-April.

Contractor crews will repaint the I-5 Snohomish River Bridge in Everett. Most of the work will take place underneath the freeway, limiting traffic effects to occasional closures on Marine View Drive.
