Section of SR 17 in northeast Moses Lake scheduled for mid-April resurfacing

Work includes multimodal improvements at several intersections between Big Bend campus, Interstate 90

MOSES LAKE – Spring is coming to the Columbia Basin, and with it comes a multitude of colors. Along a 7-mile stretch of State Route 17 in Moses Lake, one of those colors will soon be safety orange.

The four-month project is scheduled to start Monday, April 1, at an estimated cost of $7.6 million. Washington State Department of Transportation contractor Central Washington Asphalt will resurface the pavement of a section of SR 17 with asphalt between mileposts 50 and 57. Crews will also modernize the pedestrian crossings at intersections and bring them up to Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

WSDOT is teaming up with the City of Moses Lake Public Works Department to inform city leaders about the project, said WSDOT Assistant Project Engineer Justin Hammond. “This work maintains the roadway surface at the lowest cost,” Hammond added.

Work is scheduled through the end of July. Travelers will encounter single-lane closures on SR 17 along with flagger-controlled zones at signals. Most of the work will be done between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
