Overnight bridge paving to close northbound I-405 in Kirkland April 29; additional nightly lane reductions planned through May 5

All northbound traffic will use Northeast 85th Street collector-distributor

KIRKLAND – Four nights of bridge deck repairs kick off on Saturday, April 29, with a closure of northbound Interstate 405 in Kirkland. During the overnight closure, all traffic will shift to the Northeast 85th Street collector/distributor. Work on southbound I-405 in both Kirkland and Bothell is scheduled to begin Sunday, April 30, with the interstate reduced overnight to a single lane.

Jay Inslee signed an emergency proclamation Jan. 8, 2022, to fund 88 pavement repair projects across King, Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties, including the three bridges in Kirkland and Bothell. The $7 million project is scheduled to wrap up this year with permanent striping still to be completed at several locations.

Slow down on ice and snow.

It's easier to skid or lose control traveling at higher speeds. Give yourself more time to stop.

Carry chains, practice installing them.

Winter conditions could mean chains are required on your route. Practice putting them on your vehicle ahead of time.

Pack your winter car kit.

Carry extra supplies like warm clothing, ice scraper and brush, jumper cables and other emergency items.
