Night closure of SR 507 near Bucoda begins Thursday, Sept. 28

BUCODA – Travelers will need to plan for a night closure along a short segment of State Route 507 south of Bucoda. From 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28 to 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, the highway will close to all travelers.

A signed detour will direct northbound traffic around the closure via SR 507 through Centralia. Southbound travelers will use Old Highway 99 in Tenino. During the closure, travelers will have no access through the work zone.

Before and after the closure, the existing speed limit will be reduced from 50 mph to 35 mph at SR 507 between milepost 7.95 to 7.96. The temporary speed reduction will remain in place until the roadway is repaired.  The speed limit will be enforceable as soon as signs are installed.

Repair plan

A culvert that carries water under SR 507 has deteriorated. The closure allows contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation to excavate both directions of the highway. The highway will reopen using a temporary surface. Workers will return later to complete paving the roadway.

The night closure allows workers to replace the failing culvert. The repair helps keep the highway in good working order.

Slow down – lives are on the line.

In 2023, speeding continued to be a top reason for work zone crashes.

Even one life lost is too many.

Fatal work zone crashes doubled in 2023 - Washington had 10 fatal work zone crashes on state roads.

It's in EVERYONE’S best interest.

95% of people hurt in work zones are drivers, their passengers or passing pedestrians, not just our road crews.
