WSDOT to preview multi-billion-dollar regional construction program at upcoming open house

Contractors and consultants invited to event on Oct. 19

SHORELINE –The Washington State Department of Transportation is seeking contractors and consultants to support critical fish passage, roadway preservation and mobility improvements from the King-Pierce county line to the Canadian border.

Over 100 projects, estimated at more than $2 billion, are expected to be advertised for competitive bidding between now and the end of 2024. To engage the construction industry and help get ahead of what’s expected to be one of the busiest biennia to date, WSDOT will host an evening open house at its regional headquarters in Shoreline on Wednesday, Oct. 19. During the event, agency leadership and engineers from Northwest Region along with SR 520, I-405, Gateway mega programs and Washington State Ferries will be onsite to highlight anticipated projects, answer questions and network with participants. Information will also be available for businesses interested in learning more about state contracting and certification.

“We have a lot of work coming and have a vested interest in keeping people and goods moving safely through the region,” said WSDOT Assistant Regional Administrator Messay Shiferaw. “This event is an excellent opportunity to showcase our meaningful work and to foster connections among people, and increase participation by Minority, Small, Veteran, Women and Disadvantage Business Enterprises. We want to give these groups a unique opportunity to interact among themselves and with our staff.”

The event is free and open to prime contractors, subcontractors, consultants and small businesses who have an interest in the construction industry.

Slow down – lives are on the line.

In 2023, speeding continued to be a top reason for work zone crashes.

Even one life lost is too many.

Fatal work zone crashes doubled in 2023 - Washington had 10 fatal work zone crashes on state roads.

It's in EVERYONE’S best interest.

95% of people hurt in work zones are drivers, their passengers or passing pedestrians, not just our road crews.
