Pilchuck River Bridge reduced to a single lane starting evening of Friday, June 26, for weekend work

SNOHOMISH – Travelers, heed the warning now or get stuck in the backups later. The US 2 Pilchuck River Bridge near Snohomish will be reduced to a single lane the weekend of June 27-28. Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation need to close the other lanes to safely replace two old expansion joints.

The lane reduction will last from 9 p.m., Friday, June 26, to 4 a.m., Monday, June 29. Flaggers will alternate traffic through the single open lane. This work is weather dependent.

Replacing the 40-year-old expansion joints will keep the highway in a state of good repair as the population in Snohomish County continues to grow. The work will also reduce the risk of costly emergency repairs in the future.

Normally, there is one lane open in each direction on this stretch of the highway. Because both directions of traffic will use just one open lane, delays are expected. People are encouraged to postpone weekend travel plans if they involve crossing the bridge, or be prepared for lengthy backups and delays.

For the safety of travelers and our crews, this project will follow COVID-19 safety guidelines.
