SR 7 Pre-design Study

Planning study news

The pre-design study is underway. It should be completed in Spring 2025. WSDOT is collecting data and beginning to work with community members and project partners to inform our design for the corridor.

Timeline
March 2024 - April 2025
Status
In progress
Budget
$1.8 million (pre-design)

Purpose

WSDOT has an upcoming paving and intersection improvement project on State Route 7. This pre-design study will use Complete Streets to identify improvements for everyone who uses SR 7. Recommended improvements will become part of that project.

The project is divided into three segments – northern, central and southern. This study will look for Complete Streets improvements on all three segments.

Key elements of the pre-design include:

  • Focus on safe travel for everyone.
  • Improve accessibility and comfort for people walking, rolling, biking and taking transit.
  • Identify potential impacts to overburdened and vulnerable populations.
  • Maintain access to the corridor for businesses, transit and freight.

Each segment has its own schedule based on available funding. When funding is in place, these improvements will advance to design and construction.

The SR 7 Pre-design from 38th Street to 267th Street in Pierce County will identify improvements along and across the corridor for all users of all modes of travel.
