Project overview
This project will improve pedestrian and traffic safety on US 2 at 11 locations by replacing the signalized intersection in Sultan at US 2 and Old Owen Road/Fern Bluff Road with a roundabout and installing delineation, signing, truck aprons, curb ramps, curbing and crosswalks along the US 2 corridor from the Monroe to Gold Bar.
What to expect
For most of the work, there will be single-lane restrictions and directional closures at times. During the roundabout construction in Sultan at Old Owen Road and US 2, a temporary road will be created to allow US 2 travelers to pass. Details on days and times have not been determined.
The US 2 corridor will receive safety improvements from Monroe to Gold Bar.
US 2 is one of only two year-round highways across Washington's Cascade Mountain range and plays a vital role in the state's transportation infrastructure. From 2008-2017, WSDOT invested nearly $60 million in safety improvements on US 2 between Everett and the Stevens Pass summit. These projects added roundabouts, dedicated turn lanes, signals traffic cameras, new pavement, electronic message and warning signs, rumble strips and reduced speed limits. More improvements will be made along the corridor with this $17 million Connecting Washington project. Working with the local leadership and communities along the corridor between Everett and Stevens Pass, WSDOT is working on 11 safety and traffic improvements with construction beginning as early as 2025.
