SR 282 Nat Washington Blvd - Safety Improvement

Project overview

This project will install a compact roundabout at the intersection of SR 282 and Nat Washington Way, to enhance safety and reduce collisions. Installing a roundabout has proven safer than the existing turns and safer than installing traffic signals.

Timeline
June 2026-September-2026
Project status
Pre-construction
Funding
$1.2 million

What to expect

The existing intersection configuration has left-and right- turn lanes in each direction of SR 282. Installing a roundabout here will significantly reduce the vehicle-conflict points caused by the existing layout. This project will last between two to three months. WSDOT will coordinate with the City of Ephrata and Grant County and other stakeholders as part of community outreach. We will host an online open house to inform public and receive feedback regarding multimodal use of this intersection.

This single-llane compact roundabout will be constructed within the existing WSDOT right-of-way, and it will follow the City of Ephrata's Comprehensive Plan.

The county is constructing a new jail near the future site of the roundabout, which might add a considerable amount of traffic to the intersection. WSDOT and the City of Ephrata and Grant County will continue working together on easing any kind of congestion at these intersections in the future.
