ASHFORD – Both lanes of State Route 706 east of Ashford have reopened to all travelers after large mudslides closed the highway Thursday, Feb. 6. The road reopened at 6:15 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24.

ASHFORD – A portion of State Route 706 leading to Mount Rainier National Park will remain closed until further notice due to an unstable hillside above the highway. As the continuing slide remains too dangerous to remove at this point, the Washington State Department of Transportation does not know when the highway will reopen.

WSDOT will add two new stop signs at the Mounts Road and southbound Interstate 5 interchange. The new signs will require all travelers who use the Mounts Road overpass to stop for traffic coming from southbound I-5.

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 through 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 20th Street East under I-5 in Fife will close around-the-clock. The closure allows crews to mobilize a large crane under I-5 to begin installing girders on the new southbound I-5 Puyallup River Bridge.
