US 12 emergency repairs begin Jan. 26 following regionwide flooding near Aberdeen

With a much-needed break in weather, the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin efforts to stabilize a slope and clear a culvert under US 12 that was clogged by recent storms at milepost 4.6 near Aberdeen.

US 101 Indian Creek fish passage project west of Port Angeles begins Feb. 7

An outdated culvert under US 101 at Indian Creek has impeded the movement of salmon and other fish from traveling upstream for years. Now a Washington State Department of Transportation project to replace that culvert will mean a lower speed limit and a temporary traffic signal about 10 miles west of Port Angeles.

2021 ferry ridership nears 75% of pre-pandemic levels

SEATTLE – Annual ridership aboard Washington State Ferries rebounded from 2020 pandemic numbers by almost 3.3 million customers in 2021 to nearly 17.3 million. The arrival of COVID-19 vaccines and a boost in tourism are the main reasons for the system’s largest year-to-year ridership increase on record.
