SR 17 - Grape Drive Intersection Improvements

Project overview

This project will remove the existing signal at the intersection and build a multilane roundabout on SR 17 at the intersection of Grape Dr. Construction is scheduled to begin mid-May.

Spring 2021 - Fall 2022
Project status
$2.3 million

What to expect

Construction starts May 9.  Travelers in the daytime should see SR 17 reduced to a single lane of travel in each direction.  Intermittent flagger controlled traffic will be necessary and will occur mostly during nighttime hours to reduce travel impacts.

In the first six weeks of construction, traffic control will include lane closures on SR 17.  Through and right turns will be allowed, but left turns will be restricted and detours using Stratford/Maple, Stratford/Valley, and Valley/Airway will be signed.  Intermittent flagger controlled traffic with delays may be necessary depending on equipment staging.

Traffic control in the following weeks of construction will include single lane closures of SR 17.  The intersection will function as a single lane roundabout with all turning movements allowed.  Travelers can expect flagger-controlled traffic with delays between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Sidewalks will be constructed at all corners of the intersection, which will make connections to crosswalks at all legs of the intersection. The pedestrian route along the west side of Grape will be widened to 10 feet along the existing Joe Rodgers Trail. Pedestrian improvements will extend to the south as far as the intersection of Grape Dr. and Gary St.
