Plan for additional travel delays on routes to some popular summer destinations

Several state highways in Olympic Peninsula, Mount Rainier need repairs

OLYMPIA – Travelers headed to Mount Rainier National Park, Ocean Shores, Lake Cushman and other popular summer destinations will want to plan for additional travel delays this year. Construction crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will resurface several state highways around the Olympic Peninsula and Pierce County.

Work will begin as soon as Wednesday, July 13 on State Route 113 in Clallam County. The work will continue into early fall.

Slow down on ice and snow.

It's easier to skid or lose control traveling at higher speeds. Give yourself more time to stop.

Carry chains, practice installing them.

Winter conditions could mean chains are required on your route. Practice putting them on your vehicle ahead of time.

Pack your winter car kit.

Carry extra supplies like warm clothing, ice scraper and brush, jumper cables and other emergency items.
