Bridge deck concerns close two lanes of First Avenue South bridge in Seattle

SEATTLE – Two lanes of the northbound State Route 99 First Avenue South bridge over the Duwamish River are closed until further notice following a bridge inspection on Wednesday, Feb. 18, that identified concerns with the steel grid deck.

FORKS – Emergency repair work is now underway to stabilize the slope beneath US 101 south of Forks in Jefferson County. Heavy rains in December caused a slide that damaged the roadway and embankment above the Bogachiel River.

BOTHELL – A visible shift is about to take place at the Interstate 405/State Route 522 Interchange in Bothell. Beginning Feb. 20, crews will start removing large flyover ramps that once carried northbound I-405 traffic to SR 522.

OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Transportation is introducing a new program to help businesses and fleet operators transition to cleaner vehicles. $112 million state program slated to open in April for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.

Carry chains, practice installing them.

Winter conditions could mean chains are required on your route. Practice putting them on your vehicle ahead of time.

Pack your winter car kit.

Carry extra supplies like warm clothing, ice scraper and brush, jumper cables and other emergency items.
