Tolls are only collected for trips headed to Tacoma on the State Route 16 Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Tolls help repay the costs of construction to build the second span of the bridge which opened in 2007.

Buses, vanpools and emergency vehicles are able to travel toll-free if they meet specific requirements.
History
In 1998 voters approved construction of a second Tacoma Narrows Bridge between Tacoma and Gig Harbor to alleviate daily traffic backups and accommodate projected growth in population and employment. Construction began in 2002, and the new bridge opened in 2007.
