Traffic Action Tracking System (TRACTS)
The TRaffic ACtion Tracking System (TRACTS) tracks low-cost enhancement projects and related inquiries for WSDOT. Low Cost Enhancement (LCE) projects are small, low cost – usually less than $100,000 – projects that can be quickly implemented to reduce crashes, reduce the potential for crashes, or improve mobility. LCEs quickly address emerging crash trends and mobility issues. These projects bring near-term relief to operational deficiencies, and are often the first step in implementing incremental, long-term corridor strategies.
Consortium for Innovative Transportation Education (CITE)
WSDOT has developed a series of eLearning based Transportation Management Systems & Operations (TSMO) courses that are available and free to WSDOT employees.
The following courses are available:
- TSMO 101: What is this TSMO Thing Anyway
- CMM: Assessing Agency Capabilities
- Communicating the Value of TSMO
- Integrating TSMO into Your Agency
- Managing a Corridor
Three more courses (Performance Management, Transportation Demand Management, and Freight Operations) will hopefully be available in the coming months.

Highway Capacity Software (static or empirical models)
This is a very basic set of models that generally are used only when no congestion exists or is likely to exist, thus, it is not a major focus of traffic analysis within the department. However, traffic analysis theory is based on this HCS/HCM foundation, so if you are new to traffic analysis, this is a great place to start educating yourself about the world of traffic analysis. The videos and training available will help get new employees up to speed in no time.
Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITSAmerica)
This website provides recorded webinars that are available anytime.
National Highway Institute (NHI)
This website provides numerous free online web based courses on all transportation engineering subject areas.
National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE)
This website provides recorded webinars that are available anytime.
PTV (YouTube channel)
This software uses stochastic micro simulation modeling, travel demand modeling and meso modeling which are used when analytical/deterministic/empirical models cannot help understand likely traffic responses to projects and future year travel demand. This link provides various videos designed to help users become more familiar with the intricacies of these highly complex electronic models. Also, the software itself contains example files and a user's guide for definitions.
Sidra (roundabout analysis)
This software is used for empirical modeling of roundabouts or roundabouts in a network (when simulation models aren't needed) to help understand likely traffic responses to projects and future year travel demand. This link provides various videos to help users become more familiar with the intricacies of this less complex electronic roundabout model. Also, the software itself contains example files and a user's guide for definitions.
Talking Technology and Transportation (T3)
This website provides recorded webinars that are available anytime.
Trafficware (synchro)
This software is used for empirical modeling when simulation models are not needed to help understand likely traffic responses to projects and future year travel demand. This resource provides videos to help users become more familiar with the intricacies of these less complex electronic models. Also, the software itself contains example files and a user's guide for definitions.
Transportation Research Board (TRB)

WSDOT Traffic Electrical Systems
WSDOT training and reference materials for design, construction, and inspection of roadway lighting, traffic signal, intelligent transportation system (ITS), and roadside power distribution systems. Additional materials will be added as archived training is updated. See page subsections System Design Training and Construction Inspection Training.
