Amtrak Cascades

Amtrak Cascades

Amtrak Cascades® runs three trains a day between Seattle and Portland (two run between Seattle and Eugene, Oregon, via Portland). The trains stop at King Street Station, which is located just south of downtown, near Safeco Field, one of the two major stadiums in Seattle.

Sound Transit also operates a rail/bus system around the region, including a commuter train between Seattle and Tacoma.

King County Metro Transit is the major local bus line in the Seattle area. Buses and bus stops can be found all around downtown Seattle. All King County Metro bus travel within the downtown core is free of charge.

The Seattle Monorail takes you to the Seattle Center and the Westlake Center along 5th Avenue.

Cross-country buses are mainly provided by Greyhound Bus Line, which has a bus terminal at the northeast edge of the downtown Seattle core. Gray Line Tours is a major regional bus line that provides many leisure bus tours.

Getting around on the water:

Travel by Ferry
Admire the view aboard a state ferry. The Washington State Department of Transportation operates the largest ferry fleet in the United States. Twenty-eight ferries cross Puget Sound and its inland waterways, carrying over 26 million passengers to 20 different ports of call. From Tacoma, Washington, to Sidney, British Columbia, we travel up and down the Sound, acting as a marine highway for commercial users, tourists and daily commuters alike.

From Colman Dock at Pier 52, travelers and their vehicles can take a ferry to Bremerton or Bainbridge Island. A passenger-only ferry goes from Colman Dock to Vashon Island.

Check WSDOT’s ferries division web site for wait times, fares, schedules and other information.

Enjoy the Water Aboard a Water Taxi

The King County Water Taxi provides convenient, passenger-only transportation between West Seattle and downtown Seattle. Take a 12-minute ride to the other side of Elliot Bay for a great view of the Seattle skyline.
