More road repair and safety work slated for 2018 and beyond

GOLD BAR – Travelers can expect a less turbulent ride on US 2 between Sultan and Skykomish.

Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. and Lakeside Industries have each put the finishing touches on their separate pavement projects on the highway Tuesday, Oct. 31. Combined, both projects resurfaced 25 miles of road from Sultan to Gold Bar and from east of Gold Bar to Skykomish.

“It has been about 15 to 20 years since these stretches of US 2 were resurfaced, so we’re really excited to finish up these two projects and give drivers a smoother and safer surface to travel on,” said Lorena Eng, regional administrator for the Washington State Department of Transportation. “We also know this important work caused some delays and altered schedules this summer and want to thank everyone for their patience.”

Combined, both projects cost about $8.3 million.

More work coming to US 2

This year’s work is just the start. A project scheduled for summer 2018 will resurface the US 2 Westbound Trestle and both directions of US 2 will be repaved between SR 204 to Bickford Avenue.

Another project is scheduled for the next construction season in 2019 that will resurface US 2 from Bickford Avenue in Snohomish to the Sofie Road Vicinity in Monroe. This project will also include a safety component that will add concrete barriers in the median from Bickford Avenue to the Pilchuck River Bridge and widen the median to six feet from the Pilchuck River Bridge to Roosevelt Road Vicinity in Monroe.
