Project overview
Crews worked to stabilize the hillside above SR 109 west of Hoquiam.
What to expect
On Wednesday, March 22, nearly 0.7 miles of highway west of the State Route 109 Spur in Hoquiam closed to all traffic around the clock. Travelers detoured via US 101, Ocean Beach Road and Powell Road. The contractor expected the closure to last three weeks while they worked to stabilize the slope above the highway. They completed the project in eight days. On Thursday, March 30, crews reopened the highway.
During the project, crews removed trees with shallow roots that had the potential to fall into the roadway. This work will reduce the amount of time it takes to clean up the highway after a slide.
