SHELTON – Mason County … meet alternating, one-way traffic. You’ll be seeing a lot of it this summer.
Expect delays starting next week, as temporary signals allow just one direction of travel at a time through three different project work zones on US 101 and State Route 106. Here’s a rundown of the three projects, their locations and likely timelines for alternating, one-way traffic control:
US 101 at Purdy Creek (milepost 339)
• Project information: The existing Purdy Creek Bridge is inadequate to allow flood waters to pass beneath the roadway. As a result, floods frequently close US 101 and damage the bridge. The new bridge is higher, allowing floodwaters to pass below. Online: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/US101/PurdyCreekBridge/
• Alternating, one-way traffic: Crews are scheduled to shift traffic onto the new bridge next week. Alternating one-way traffic will be in place June 22 through mid- to late July.
US 101 in Hoodsport (milepost 333)
• Project information: A new rock barrier in wave-eroded locations will armor the slopes adjacent to Hood Canal. By reducing the threat of slides and delays, the route will be safer and more reliable.

• Alternating, one-way traffic: Tentatively scheduled for mid-July through early August.
SR 106, about three miles east of US 101
• Project information: This project replaces a culvert that is currently a fish barrier with a fish-passable culvert on the X-Tributary of the Skokomish River.
• Alternating, one-way traffic: Tentatively scheduled for mid-July through mid-September.
