MCCLEARY – A project that replaces a railroad crossing on State Route (SR) 108 near the Little Creek Casino requires closing the highway for 24 hours beginning Friday night.
During the closure drivers wishing to access destinations among McCleary, Shelton and Olympia will use US 101 and SR 8 as alternate routes.
“Travelers may have to drive about 20 minutes out of their way to get around the closure,” said Don Clotfelter, WSDOT maintenance manager, “but closing the highway for a full 24 hours expedites the work and minimizes the overall impacts to traffic.”
Crews will close SR 108 at 8 p.m. and work continuously until 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25. Portable electronic signs along the highway will direct motorists around the closure.
WSDOT is partnering with Puget Sound and Pacific Railroad to improve the condition of the railroad crossing and SR 108, which carries an average of 5,000 vehicles a day.
