STANWOOD – Two months after starting the search for a contractor to construct improvements on SR 532 in Stanwood, the Washington State Department of Transportation has narrowed the list of applicants from seven to four teams.
The four teams pre-qualified for the design-build project include:

  • Granite Northwest Constructors, Joint Venture
  • Guy F. Atkinson Construction, LLC
  • Kiewit Pacific Company
  • Parsons/Kuney, Joint Venture

“We’re pleased with the high caliber of applicants - it was a challenge narrowing down the list,” said Project Engineer Robyn Boyd. “Any one of the teams would do an excellent job of delivering this project on time, within budget and with the highest level of quality.”

With the list narrowed, WSDOT will issue an Request for Proposal (RFP) and invite each of the four remaining teams to submit a proposal to construct the improvements on SR 532. All teams should propose innovative ideas on how they will deliver the project quickly and meet WSDOT’s budgeting, accountability, community outreach and environmental commitment goals.

“Now comes the exciting part,” said Boyd. “We expect this short list of talented contractors and consultants to draw from all their skills and resources to provide superior proposals.”

WSDOT plans to select a team in spring 2009 and start construction in summer 2009.

The project work includes:

  • replacing the General Mark W. Clark Memorial bridge.
  • improving intersections between Camano Island and I-5, including new left- and right-turn lanes.
  • constructing a westbound truck-climbing lane between 12th Avenue NW and 28th Avenue NW.
  • constructing an eastbound truck-climbing lane between Pioneer Highway and 72nd Avenue NW.
  • repaving the section of road between 270th Street NW and 72nd Avenue NW.
  • building highway storm water run-off treatment facilities.

Construction will start in summer 2009. For more information, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR532/CamanoI5/.
