FRANCES – Contractor crews anticipate repair work to begin at an unstable slope on SR 6, this time near Elk Prairie Road (milepost 20.60), as early as Tuesday, Feb. 19, announces the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The repair work is scheduled for completion in April 2008.

Repair work will consist of removing loose trees and debris from the slope, and excavating the embankment to a stable surface once again. Large rocks will also be installed along the embankment, creating a support structure to further stabilize this slope. In addition, crews will make repairs to the damaged culvert below the embankment and return it to its previous state.

The contractor – Tapani Underground, Inc. – plans to mobilize equipment on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Work is anticipated to begin Wednesday, Feb. 20 and continue throughout the week. The contract is expected to last 30 working days or less, depending on weather conditions. The project is estimated to be complete in late April.

During construction, motorists can expect single lane closures on SR 6 for emergency repair operations. During working hours, flaggers will be directing motorists safely through the work zone. A temporary traffic signal will be installed and operating during non-working hours.

Advanced warning signs will be posted during the closures. Motorists are asked to please pay attention to the warning signs and are also reminded that traffic fines double within a construction work zone when workers are present (RCW 46.61.527).
