  • Program Purpose

    The purpose of the Safe Routes to Schools program is to improve safety and mobility for children by enabling and encouraging them to walk and bicycle to school. Funding from this program is for projects within two-miles of primary and middle schools (K-8) and will be targeted to address all of the following:

    Pedestrian and Bicycle Collision Statistics

     The data provided includes location information about pedestrian and bicycle crashes on city streets, country roads and state highways in Washington for 2007-2008.

    A NEW WSDOT Safe Routes to School ListServ has been established to provide an opportunity for information sharing. Safe Routes to School

    Developing a Competitive Plan for Your Project

    Funded projects for the Safe Routes to School grant program are chosen based on a competitive grant application process. There are Safe Routes to School Review Criteria to help communities develop a competitive project.
