Blocking Incidents
  • SR 20 North Cascade Highway milepost 165 to 185, approximately nine miles west of Winthrop, remains closed due to fire activity. This closure is expected to remain in place through July. There is no local detour. Cross-state travel is available on US 2 and I-90.
  • On US 2 Stevens Pass between milepost 61.9 and 70.5, a reduced speed zone of 50 m.p.h. is in place due to rough road and potholing. Travelers should remain attentive for pot holing of the road through this section of highway and always drive for conditions. Repairs to this stretch of road are planned for June when it is warm enough for hot mix treatment.
Construction Closures
  • Wednesday, June 23 – The southbound lanes of I-5 on the Stillaguamish River Bridge are closed long-term for construction. Traffic in both directions will share specially configured northbound lanes of I-5 during this closure between 236th Street Northeast and the SR 530 interchange.
  • The evening of Tuesday, July 6 through mid-August, traffic northbound on I-5 near Old Fairhaven Parkway will shift onto a temporary two-lane bypass that runs parallel to the I-5 mainline. Speed limits will be reduced to 50 miles per hour.
  • On US 2 between milepost 78 and 90 (east of Stevens Pass near Coles Corner/Jct. US 2/SR 207), Monday through Wednesday, there will be 24/7 chipsealing operations. Days from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., expect flagger controlled traffic with delays up to 20 minutes. Overnight, travelers should remain attentive for mobile brooming operations and shoulder closures. A reduced speed limit of 35 m.p.h. is in place until this work is completed.
  • On US 2 between 58-71 (summit of Stevens Pass) Monday through Thursdays between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m., expect flagger controlled traffic and delays up to 20 minutes the crew is paving.
  • Friday, July 13, to the morning of Monday, July 26 – The westbound SR 520 on-ramp from Montlake Boulevard will close for a full weekend closure from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday.
  • On US 97 between milepost 228 and 229 (north of Daroga State Park), Tuesday only from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., a contractor will be cleaning up an oil and diesel spill. Expect flagger controlled traffic with delays up to 10 minutes during working hours.
Special Events
  • Flammable cargo is prohibited on SR 520 eastbound & westbound from Montlake Blvd (MP 1) to 84th Ave NE (MP 5).
