Work zone typical traffic control plans (TCP)
These Typical Traffic Control Plans (TCPs) are detailed drawings showing the layout of temporary road signs and devices to warn and guide traffic past, around and through the work site safely.
Typical traffic control plans (TCP) are generic and not intended to satisfy all work zone conditions and serve as guides. Typical TCPs may be modified with sound engineering judgment and familiarization with work zone policy and guidance. For unique roadway configurations or conditions, develop a project or site-specific TCPs.
Traffic control plans must have acceptance by the appropriate agency or agencies having jurisdiction. Work zone speed limit reductions and advisory speeds must have approval per Chapter 5 in the Traffic Manual.
Typical TCPs are being updated in Microstation to full-color and include up-to-date work zone cells. PDFs are available in color and black/white. Check back often for new TCP plans as they become available.
All users must update cells at least annually to help avoid using outdated cells.
The zip files contain the .dgn files.

Slow down – lives are on the line.
In 2023, speeding continued to be a top reason for work zone crashes.
Even one life lost is too many.
Fatal work zone crashes doubled in 2023 - Washington had 10 fatal work zone crashes on state roads.
It's in EVERYONE’S best interest.
95% of people hurt in work zones are drivers, their passengers or passing pedestrians, not just our road crews.
